Bing Maps Interactive SDK (AJAX 7,0)

Bing Maps Interactive SDK (AJAX 7.0)

Bing Maps v7 Interactive SDK

New Features:
  • Create map with map options > Map with inertia intensity: Try varying the inertiaIntensity parameter in the source code window. Set it anywhere between 0 and 1, hit run, and then see what happens when you click and drag the map.
  • Create map with map options > Map with background color: Pull the fully zoomed out map down to see the background color and hit the "Run" button. This shows off the new backgroundColor option and gives you a random color every time. Try typing in your own RGB values and see what you get.
  • Get user location > Get location: If the browser on your phone or PC supports the W3C GeoLocation API, then try out the new getCurrentPosition method to easily find yourself on the map. (Note that the accuracy of this function varies depending on the capabilities of the requesting client. For example, desktop users may see lower accuracy while mobile users see much higher.)
  • Loading dynamic module > Load module - clustering: This shows you how you can use the new module loading methods to register and load your own custom modules (or modules built by other Bing Maps developers).

Bing Maps The Route Savvy App

Bing Maps The Route Savvy App

Whether you are going five or fifty places, the Route Planner app is a useful, unique map app that will get you from point A to Z in the shortest amount of time possible.Route Savvy App Bing Maps

Find Shortest Routes or quickest routes with traffic and managing geocoding from Excel data.

How it Works

Route Savvy App Geocode - Bing Maps

The first step is to add destinations on the map. “RouteSavvy” makes it easy to quickly add a few or 100 destinations – you can click locations on the map, enter addresses manually on the left-rail, or upload an Excel file with addresses on each row. For demonstration purposes, I’ve shown eight points below. Each time you add a destination, the map auto-zooms and centres so you can see all the destinations at once.

Route Savvy App Import Excel - Bing Maps

"General users likely have between three and ten destinations when they plan trips that could benefit from route optimization. The value of this tool for business use is amplified when businesses may have 25 or more destinations to reach in a day. Other servicesonly allow up to 25 waypointsconsidering the Bing app can handle up to 100, we feel that we’ll be a strong choice for businesses who need great route optimization for lots of destinations. Realtor's who have multiple showings in a day, any business that does deliveries, shuttle services, technicians, and florists – just a few examples - will find this to be a great tool to make their lives easier with the “RouteSavvy” app."

In Addition there are some improvements to Bing Maps Explore:

  • Appearance: Cool colours create a more visually appealing backdrop that helps content ‘pop’ on the map, providing clear differentiation for pushpins, labels and red, yellow and green traffic overlays.
  • New labels: Larger fonts correspond to larger roads, making it easier to identify major streets and throughways. Crisper labels eliminate the need for bolding and less-attractive glows, allowing users to quickly find locations in a relevant format.
  • Improved international coverage: Data updates deliver improved road and street detail across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Oceania and Asia.
  • Dynamic Labels (beta): This innovative map navigation allows you to quickly zoom to a region or location on the map with just a few clicks, making it easier to identify and explore areas or neighborhoods of a city. Turn on the dynamic labels beta from the map style selector on bing.com/maps/exploreand labels become clickable.

Bing Maps API 6.3 Released [AJAX] & REST Service

Lots Bing Maps news out this week. MoreBing Maps Apps and A New Bing Maps SDK

But more importantly for the developers who make these mapping applications

So this post covers Bing Maps API 6.3 Released [AJAX]
Bing Maps AJAX New Version 6.3

The new AJAX Control is version 6.3 and has the following changes:

Core functionality version of the map control. The Bing Maps AJAX Control is now available in both full functionality [6.3] and core functionality [light 6.3c] versions. If you do not have advanced mapping needs, you can enhance the performance of your map control application by using the core version of the latest map control. Note the version number (v=6.3c) for the core control which is now a slimmer down to an impressive 35kb. Meaning your maps will load much faster in the web browser.

Replace the Map Control Script to:
http://ecn.dev.virtualearth.net/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx?v=6.3c&mkt=en-us

New Search and Geocode methods.
The new VEMap.Search Method and the VEMap.Geocode Method provide an easier way to return the most accurate search results. The current VE.Find Method has like 11 arguments for making your request more specific. If you know what you want and would rather slim your request down to 3 (query, callback, options).

Sample: (Geocode): map.Geocode(‘1 Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA’, findCallback, options);

Sample: (Search): map.Search(‘Fish Tacos in San Diego’, findCallback, options);

Drag-able Push-pins!
Drag-able pushpins. With the latest version of the Bing Maps AJAX Control, your pushpins become drag-able by simply setting the VEShape.Draggable Property of the pushpin to true. There are also optional events associated with the dragging motion that you can capture and fire off additional events such as search queries or grabbing pixels to convert to lat/lons.

Sample:
var pushpin = null;

pushpin = new VEShape(VEShapeType.Pushpin, map.GetCenter());
pushpin.Draggable = true;
pushpin.onstartdrag = StartDragHandler;

pushpin.ondrag = DragHandler;

pushpin.onenddrag = EndDragHandler

Good stuff for Bing Maps Platform developers! hope to see some cool applications coming from these new APIs.#Bing Map Apps API that was also released today. The Bing Map Apps API allows you to submit your Silverlight application to be published on Bing Maps.

New Bing Maps REST Service: (now with example requests and responses)

"This was in addition to the Bing Maps SOAP Service (via Windows Communication Foundation) and the AJAX Control that have been in use for years now. Today, we’re announcing a REST interface into those wonderful maps, aerial images, and geocoding and routing systems for your grubby coding hands to get all dirty. And, the beauty with REST is that you simply need to build URL queries and handle the JSON or XML responses."
