Map Channels have released Switch Maps


Switch Maps - Straight forward, easy to use and embed in your website or blog.
(Just copy and paste the code)

Switch Maps allow you to create a map that contains:

• Google Maps
• Google Earth (3D Globe) - plugin required
• Street View
• Bing Maps
• Bing Maps - Bird's Eye View
• Open Street Map
• Yahoo Maps.
  

Creating a map is very easy select your map type then customise the map controls and set the width & height of your map.
Then use the 'Update' Button then Switch Maps creates the code that will allow you to embed your map in a website or blog.


Try Switching Map modes: Useful if one map type doesn't coverage your area another will.

Switch Maps also includes the option to include layers that show user photos from Panoramio and Picasa.

Yahoo Maps has had an update that seems to concentrate on localization
International Support is improved overall.


Italian Maps Mode and Controls

Yahoo make it far easier to change language, the page/map tiles do have to refresh in order to view the localised maps. Enlgish to Italian shown.


Español Mapas, Maps for Rome Spanish Version.


French Canadian Maps available too.

• Yahoo updates to US, US-Español, Canadian and Canadian French Mapping sites.
• A language selector, easy selection from English, French, Italian, Spanish and German.

Yahoo Maps Re-route Directions

Yahoo Maps have made a change to the directions function. You can now re-route by dragging the original route (similar to google maps directions).

Yahoo Pipes - News Map - Output KML

Yahoo Pipes - News Map
Finally a Yahoo Pipe that uses a map to visualize the found results.

Though there were not many feeds to the Map - The useful thing with Yahoo Pipes is that when it is published it is available to public and 'Copies of' can be created (sign in to yahoo required).

Add RSS feeds is very easy to apply - use the + icon on the url feed.

But the clever thing about this pipe is that it is using a normal rss feed then using geonames.org to apply a latitude and longitude to the rss feed > therefore creating a georss feed. This is then overlayed on a yahoo map showing the locations around the world.


One final point, you can export the results to KML and view in 3D using Google Earth.
One helpful scenario would be if you were looking for a new house and you can request different estate agents and overlay and view the surrounding area.

Better European Driving Directions - Yahoo Maps

Yahoo Maps are now providing better European driving directions.



Now you can cross borders and sea's and get accurate driving times (exclude traffic jams) to places right across Europe. The Example shows from Belfast to Galaţi (Eastern Romania) Stopping off in Paris (for a croissant) will take you 41 hours and 8 minutes (approx).

Driving directions within 34 European countries include:

Western Europe - Complete coverage
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Netherlands,
Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, France, and Italy.

Eastern Europe – Comprehensive coverage
Albania, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, The Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary
Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia/Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Turkey

Redesigned interactive print page makes it easier to print and read driving directions.

Yahoo will introduce new in-country Maps sites in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.
