The Met Office has created a new Google Maps Flash Map to monitor and forecast tropical storms around the world.

There are two versions of this map - Free and Premium (Paid For)

Free Version
· 1 x forecast weather layer (UK deterministic 5 day storm track)
· 1 x observed track
· 3 x latest weather layers:
· cloud (IR and Visible satellite)
· sea surface temperatures
· Thousands of historic storms (HURDAT data from 1850 until the present).

Advanced version (paid for service)
Additional premium content for an advanced service is available at a subscription rate.
The advanced service includes access to all the above, plus:
· Probabilistic forecasts of storms and weather – so a range of possible scenarios
can be understood
· Met Office 15 day ensemble forecast storm tracks; and equivalent data from
European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) and USA’s
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
· Multi-model combinations of these leading models

· Additional forecasts for storms, including strike probabilities, forming storms, and
ensemble mean storm tracks
· A utilities layer showing district boundaries for the Gulf of Mexico
Access to these features enables users to build a far more complete picture

Users require to have an account (even for the free version) worldwide cloud conditions and the locations of current cyclones. If you select a cyclone on the map you can view the cyclone's observed track and wind speeds recorded along the track.

As well as viewing current tropical storm conditions it is also possible to view historical storm information. For example you can view the track of the 2009 Hurricane Bill.

The interactive tracking map will show storms current center location and forecasted positions based on the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

The predictor is activated when you click on labeled town/city in front of the current location of the storm.

Clean layout and ease of use make this a compelling map for all users.


Other information is available

Clicking ‘More‘ will bring up Wind Fields, Ocean Buoys, Map Grid, and Map Labels. Wind Fields will hide or show the reach of the storm’s winds, displayed as circles around the selected point. These circles represent Tropical Depression force (white), Storm force (yellow), and Hurricane force (orange) winds.

The Ocean Buoys option loads the latest observations sourced from the National Data Buoy Center. This may take a moment depending on your internet connection speed. Ocean buoys appear as blue boxes that can be clicked for more details. Land-based weather stations appear as red boxes that can also be clicked for the latest observations from that location.

The Map Grid option will hide and show latitude and longitude lines, including the equator and tropics.

The Map Labels option will hide and show labels for cities, countries, continents, oceans, and seas.

Domino's Pizza Tracker™ are permitting people to check the progress of their order to the nearest 40 seconds. By using their telephone number, customers can see the name of the person who took their order. They can see at the same time at which the pizza goes into the oven and the points at which it is removed, boxed, bagged and put onto a delivery bike\vehicle.

Domino's said the initiative followed a study of the emotions involved in awaiting a pizza which revealed that the "high" at the point of ordering was followed by a trough of anxiety.

"People have told us that anxiety sets in. They don't know if we've got their order, if we'll get it right, if it will arrive on time," said spokesman Tim McIntyre. "The tracker takes out the mystery involved."

With the new system, after an order is placed, the customer can go to dominos.com, click on the Pizza Tracker icon and follow the progress of the order. The site confirms that the order has been received, when the pizza is in the oven, when it's been boxed and when it's left the store.
