Google Maps Navigation version 4.2 is now available in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland

Google first added free turn-by-turn voice guidance to its smartphone operating system in October last year. The move has had some lasting effects on the navigation sector. For example, Nokia followed in Google's footsteps and announced free turn-by-turn voice guidance for Ovi Maps in January.

  • Speak to the Map and and search.
  • Google Maps for Android includes some big improvements to Google Latitude. (location will continue to update as long as your phone is on.)
  • New experimental feature called Updates that lets you communicate with friends and post messages. (Your friends will also need to download this new version of Google Maps for Android)
  • Street View in Google Maps on Android is no longer its own map mode, Now integrated into the map where street view is available.
