Google Sky Earth (inside Google Earth) New!
Update: As expected Ogle Earth does an excellent introduction to 'Google Earth 4.2'
One pointer that users should be aware is that it now supports KML 2.2 (beta)
http://code.google.com/apis/kml/documentation/kml_tags_beta1.html
now includes:
- ExtendedData (replacement for metadata)
- Atom feeds
- AbstractView
- ResourceMap
- PhotoOverlay
- Google Earth release 4.2, video is supported!
Google Sky is an addition to Google Earth New!
You will need to download the newest version of Google Earth to use it.

I am a director of SKY-MAP.ORG. Go to www.sky-map.org and you will see that what Google has just announced already exists in web-based version for about a year. We have SDSS, IRAS, and H-Alpha surveys integrated in our system and we have 100s of millions of objects mapped. Only for HDF we have > 10.000 galaxies mapped. We also have articles related to hundreds of thousands of objects and many features that Google doesn’t have. We would be happy to find a way to cooperate with Google.

Mapperz agrees there is already 'Sky Map and Charts' out there already.
But Google can deliver to the masses.
200 million downloads of Google Earth.
Most people have heard of Google in some way.
But glad to see out of the 'google bubble' applications.
