The Public will be able to access Ordnance Survey Data from 1st April 2010. (no fools day?)

"And following the strong support in our recent consultation, I can confirm that from 1st April, we will be making a substantial package of information held by ordnance survey freely available to the public, without restrictions on re-use. Further details on the package and government’s response to the consultation will be published by the end of March."

Still no mention of Which maps will be made free though so nothing has changed really, all speculation and false expectations I fear.

But what about "derived data"? It's no use having free access to the maps if you still can't publish UK-located information (which is almost always derived from OS data) on them.

Data above the original scale of 1:10,000 will be available. Without restriction, therefore derived data will be allowed after 1st April 2010. Details will be released by 31st March 2010.

MasterMap will remain as is under crown copyright.As is should be.
